Hundreds of teenagers on e-bikes and motorized bikes caused significant disruptions in downtown Orlando earlier this month, blocking traffic and impeding emergency vehicles, according to the Orlando Police Department.
Newly released police video captured the large group swarming intersections and running red lights. In one instance, the riders blocked an ambulance with its lights flashing. The police department stated that such reckless riding poses a substantial safety risk to everyone, including the riders themselves.
Orlando Police officers intervened, apprehending some of the riders. However, due to the group's size and mobility, not every individual involved was immediately taken into custody. Police stated that enforcement actions were taken when it was safe to do so.
"This type of dangerous behavior will not be tolerated," the department said in a social media post. "Orlando Police officers will continue enforcing the law to help keep Downtown safe for everyone."
Several charges were filed against participants for reckless riding and other offenses. The exact number of teens charged was not immediately released.
