Howard Stern has secured a new career opportunity with HBO Max, where his show will continue to be streamed, following the removal of his Howard 101 channel from SiriusXM. The 72-year-old media personality's weekly show will be adapted for the streaming platform, according to reports.

Sources indicate that Stern will now focus on live shows solely on Mondays. This change in schedule is to accommodate the production of video content for HBO Max, which will condense his three-hour live show into either a 90-minute or hour-long program to be aired later in the week.

SiriusXM recently announced changes to its channel lineup, including the discontinuation of Stern's Howard 101 channel. The satellite radio provider is updating its channel numbers starting September 1, affecting various genres including sports, entertainment, comedy, news, talk, and music. Radio Andy, hosted by Andy Cohen, will move to channel 101, while Howard 100 will remain available.

The decision to scale back Stern's SiriusXM presence to one new show per week was revealed in July, leading to the layoff of approximately 12 staffers. An insider noted at the time that "He just doesn’t need that much content anymore." The new schedule, featuring new shows in the fall after Stern's summer vacation, will program past material for the remaining four days of the week.

Laid-off employees were reportedly informed of the changes via a Zoom call on July 13 and were subsequently sent home. They are expected to be eligible for severance payments based on their tenure with the company.

News of the reduced schedule and staff cuts prompted strong reactions from some long-time listeners. One X user suggested that the decline in content and staff is linked to the departure of former SiriusXM CEO Jim Meyer in 2020 and the passing of Stern's longtime agent Don Buchwald in 2024, citing these events as accelerating Stern's reduced role and compensation with the company.

Previously, Stern had two SiriusXM channels: Howard 100 for new material and Howard 101 for archival content. Representatives for Stern and HBO Max have been contacted for comment.
