The House Ethics Committee has opened an investigation into Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-Calif.) concerning allegations of "inappropriate sexual contact with a House staffer." This action comes after Gomez publicly admitted to infidelity in June, acknowledging "personal mistakes outside my marriage that have cause real pain to my wife and family."

The committee's probe is directly linked to a report published in April that detailed an encounter between Gomez and a House staffer approximately twenty years his junior. The incident reportedly occurred in the backyard of then-Rep. Eric Swalwell’s (D-Calif.) Washington, D.C. residence in August 2023.

In his June statement, Gomez characterized the extramarital relations as "consensual" and offered an apology. "I sincerely apologize to my wife, family, friends and the people that I have the privilege to serve," the 51-year-old congressman stated at the time.

The New York Post reported on the ethics probe on August 17. This inquiry into Gomez's conduct adds another layer to the ongoing scrutiny surrounding personal relationships and professional conduct within the House of Representatives.
