ABC has confirmed that the crime drama ‘High Potential,’ starring Kaitlin Olson, will not return for its third season in the fall. Instead, new episodes are slated for a midseason premiere in early 2027.
The decision to hold the series for a midseason debut was revealed at the Disney Upfront event. This places ‘High Potential’ alongside other ABC staples like ‘Will Trent’ and ‘The Rookie,’ which will also be held for midseason premieres. While an official release date has not yet been announced, sources suggest a return in early January 2027.
‘High Potential’ was renewed for its third season in March. The upcoming season will feature new showrunners Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, known for their work on ‘Poker Face.’ They will be taking over from Todd Harthan, who is departing to focus on a live-action adaptation of the YA book series ‘The Inheritance Cycle.’
Fans will also see a change in the cast, as Steve Howey will not be returning as a series regular. According to Deadline, Howey may make guest appearances at the beginning of the season to conclude his character’s storyline.
‘High Potential’s’ second season was a significant performer for ABC, ranking as the network’s top series in total viewers among the 18-49 demographic. The series, along with ‘Will Trent,’ is expected to air new episodes on Tuesdays, while ‘The Rookie’ and its upcoming spinoff ‘The Rookie: North’ are anticipated to air back-to-back on Mondays.
Seasons 1 and 2 of ‘High Potential’ are currently available for streaming on Hulu and Disney+. Additionally, Season 2 episodes can be accessed on ABC.com. Streaming subscriptions for Hulu start at $11.99 per month for the ad-supported tier, with an ad-free option available for $18.99 per month. Bundled options including Disney+ and Hulu begin at $12.99 per month.
