London's exclusive Hurlingham Club has drawn criticism from its members after closing its facilities for a private event hosted by the French luxury fashion brand Hermès. This marks the first time in the club's history that it has shut its doors to members for such a purpose.

The event, described as a "very British Garden Party," was held to celebrate the opening of Hermès' new store on Bond Street. The gathering saw notable attendees including actress Jenna Coleman, tennis commentator Annabel Croft, Sir Bob Geldof, and supermodel Erin O'Connor. Musicians Jools Holland and Fat Boy Slim also performed.

Members expressed strong disappointment and anger over the closure, with some reporting that access to amenities like the river walk and deckchair areas was restricted even before the event. One member stated, "It is appalling," and another conveyed their "deep disappointment" at being locked out for the entire day. Concerns were raised that the club had prioritized revenue from a brand over the value and access for its paying members, some of whom have held memberships for over 25 years.

In addition to the event closure, members are reportedly unhappy about the ongoing demolition of two tennis courts to make way for padel courts, a decision one member called a "total waste." The Hurlingham Club was contacted for comment regarding the member concerns.
