Heather Mills Identifies 'Hero' Cab Driver Who Aided Her After 1993 Accident
The former model revealed the man who helped her after her life-altering leg injury was a participant in the documentary series '70 Up'.
Heather Mills has identified Tony Walker, a participant in the ITV documentary series "70 Up," as the "courageous cabbie" who came to her aid following a severe accident in 1993 that resulted in the amputation of her left leg.
Mills, who was married to Sir Paul McCartney for four years, recounted that she was struck by a police motorcycle responding to an emergency call while walking in Kensington. The incident left her with crushed ribs, a punctured lung, and significant injuries to her left leg, necessitating an amputation six inches below the knee.
In a recent Instagram post, Mills, 58, shared her excitement about Walker's appearance in the final installment of the "70 Up" series, which has documented the lives of its participants since childhood. She revealed that she and Walker reconnected in London the previous year, a chance encounter that allowed him to recount his perspective of the accident.
"I can’t believe the same courageous cabbie picked up my leg and put it in an ice bucket. He is one of my heroes," Mills stated, sharing a video of their reunion in a London pub. She noted that they were at the very pub from which the barrel used to store her leg was sourced.
Walker, in a video shared by Mills, recalled spotting her in London after not seeing her since 1993. He approached her, and she eventually recognized him. "As soon as I said that, your whole demeanor changed and you realized who I was to you," Walker told Mills in the video, describing his embrace of her as a "cuddle of reassurance." Mills described the encounter from her side: "I was walking down the street and this guy yells 'Heather Mills' out the taxi and jumped out... He then burst into tears and said 'oh my god. I've watched your story and I can't believe you survived.'"
In the latest episode of "70 Up," Walker reflected on his early aspirations to become a jockey and the disappointment of his career being cut short due to weight concerns.
The final episode of "70 Up" is scheduled to air on September 22 on ITV.
