PHILADELPHIA — Yankees relief pitcher Brent Headrick delivered a clutch performance Friday night, escaping a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning to help preserve a 1-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

With runners on first and second and one out, Headrick entered the game and was immediately challenged by a Phillies lineup featuring notable hitters. He received assistance from outfielders Jasson Domínguez and Cody Bellinger, whose strong throws home prevented runners from advancing further, ultimately keeping the Phillies from tying the game with a runner on third. Headrick then faced Kyle Schwarber with the bases loaded and a full count. After some key blocks on pitches in the dirt by catcher Ali Sánchez, Headrick threw a 95 mph fastball that resulted in a ground ball to second base for the final out of the inning.

"He’s electric," said teammate Cam Schlittler, who pitched into the eighth inning. "He’s saved me plenty of times this season. Doesn’t sometimes get the credit he deserves, but he’s been amazing."

Headrick, who has now gone 44 of his 52 appearances this season without allowing a run, lowered his earned run average to 1.38 with the outing. Manager Aaron Boone acknowledged Headrick's significant contribution to the team's bullpen.

"I think he’s been on the short list of guys that have been the best in the game, that aren’t the full-time closer or whatever," Boone said.

Headrick expressed his readiness for high-pressure situations. "Just throw my best stuff and trust it," Headrick said. "That’s what you prep for. You love to be in those situations. Any time my name’s called, I’m going to pitch and give everything I have."

In other team news, pitcher Carlos Rodón is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, with approximately 35 pitches. If successful, he is expected to face hitters next week. Clarke Schmidt is slated to face hitters for a second time on Sunday as he works toward a potential return later in the season. Luis Gil has begun facing hitters at the team's player development complex, according to social media posts. Additionally, shortstop prospect Dax Kilby was activated from the injured list for the Single-A Tampa team after recovering from a hamstring injury.
