Hayden Panettiere and Wladimir Klitschko's relationship, which spanned nearly a decade, began in 2009 and concluded in 2018. The couple welcomed their daughter, Kaya, in December 2014.

Panettiere and Klitschko first met in 2008 at a party hosted by a mutual friend. In 2013, Panettiere recounted on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" that she initiated contact with Klitschko, remarking on his size, to which he responded about her stature.

The actress began dating Klitschko in 2009, shortly after her relationship with Milo Ventimiglia ended. The pair experienced their first public separation in May 2011, issuing a joint statement expressing mutual respect and a desire to remain close friends despite the geographical challenges of their relationship.

However, they appeared to reconcile, as evidenced by public appearances and a ring on Panettiere's finger. By October 2013, Panettiere confirmed their engagement during an appearance on "Live! With Kelly and Michael," where she playfully alluded to the diamond ring as a "promise of something." The couple subsequently purchased a home together in Nashville, Tennessee, and began wedding preparations.

In May 2014, Panettiere announced her pregnancy, and their daughter, Kaya, was born seven months later. Panettiere later described her birth experience as "traumatic," involving a lengthy labor, surgery, and multiple blood transfusions. This was followed by severe postpartum depression and a struggle with substance abuse, which she detailed in her 2026 memoir, "This Is Me: A Reckoning." She wrote about feeling disconnected from her newborn daughter initially, describing the process of bonding as an "insurmountable task."

The couple's relationship ultimately ended in August 2018. Panettiere was photographed holding hands with Brian Hickerson in Los Angeles, and her mother, Lesley Vogel, confirmed the separation to RadarOnline, stating that Panettiere needed time for herself. At the time, Vogel indicated that Panettiere and Klitschko were on good terms and co-parenting Kaya. Panettiere subsequently sold their Nashville home and relocated to California.

In 2018, amidst her struggles with addiction, Panettiere made the decision to relinquish custody of Kaya to Klitschko. The young child moved to Ukraine with her father. Panettiere told People in 2022 that this was the "hardest thing I could do" but believed it was necessary for Kaya's well-being and her own path to recovery, aiming to become a better mother in the future. She stated at the time that she and Klitschko were cooperating closely in co-parenting their daughter.
