Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly considering a UK visit without their children, Archie and Lilibet, a move that veteran royal reporter Richard Kay has characterized as a form of 'emotional blackmail.' Kay suggests this tactic is aimed at pressuring King Charles III to intervene in the ongoing security dispute.

The Sussexes are scheduled to travel to the UK in the coming days, but the visit remains uncertain due to Prince Harry's expressed concerns over security arrangements. Despite months of planning, Harry has reportedly reconsidered the trip after RAVEC, the Home Office committee responsible for royal security, declined to grant him taxpayer-funded police protection.

This dispute follows Harry's unsuccessful Court of Appeal challenge in 2025, where judges ruled against his bid to reinstate publicly funded security after he and Meghan stepped back from royal duties. The court found that he had not been unfairly singled out for different treatment.

Kay, speaking on the Daily Mail's Palace Confidential program, indicated that the latest information he received suggested the couple would travel to the UK but leave their children in Montecito. "It does very much feel like there is a form of emotional blackmail going on," Kay stated. "They know the King wants to see his grandchildren. He has barely seen them."

He added that while the Sussexes may seek reconciliation with Charles, such behavior risks undermining those efforts. "The Sussexes want reconciliation with Charles, in the hope that it might lead to a broader reconciliation with other members of the family. Yet this kind of behaviour is doing its damnedest to make sure that doesn't happen."

Rebecca English, a royal editor, shared details about a leaked document commissioned by Harry and his security team. The document reportedly outlines about a dozen serious terror plots, some originating in Britain. This document was provided to RAVEC in February, presumably to bolster Harry's request for security.

English suggested that the timing of this leak, just days before the Sussexes' arrival, contributes to a perception that Harry and Meghan are attempting to manipulate the situation. "The fact that this has been leaked just days before Harry is due to arrive adds to this sense that this whole situation has been designed to manipulate the situation," English commented, while also questioning the timing of Harry's actions given his awareness of the security situation for over a year.

"But why is he doing this now? He has known about his security situation for over a year, why did he go ahead with the planning?" English asked. "Why is he now creating a drama about it at the last minute, which is leading people to seriously question his motives."
