A commemorative trail celebrating Harlesden's reggae heritage and its connection to the Windrush generation has been launched in north-west London. The Harlesden Walk of Music features commemorative discs honoring musicians, producers, and record shops that established the area as the United Kingdom's reggae capital.

The initiative, inspired by the Hollywood Walk of Fame, was developed by the community group Harlesden Bassline in collaboration with Brent Council. Funding for the project was provided by the government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund, totaling £70,000.

The walk was officially launched on International Reggae Day, July 1, and its inaugural honorees include artists with strong ties to Harlesden, such as Janet Kay, Aswad, General Levy, and The Cimarons.

This project aims to recognize the area's rich musical history, which developed significantly following the arrival of the Windrush generation. It highlights the cultural impact of reggae music and its pioneers in shaping the UK's music scene.

Organizers hope the Walk of Music will not only serve as a tribute to the area's past but also attract new visitors to the high street, fostering a continued appreciation for its cultural contributions.
