Two people were wounded in a shooting Thursday evening outside a busy subway station in the Bronx, prompting bystanders to flee the scene. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. near the West Farms Square-E Tremont Avenue subway station.
Surveillance footage captured a man in a white hoodie appearing to spray bullets into a plaza. The footage shows the individual walking toward the plaza before firing in the direction of a group of people standing near a store. One individual in the video is seen falling over a bench before hitting the pavement, though it is unclear if that person was struck by gunfire.
Bystanders were seen running for safety as the gunman fled the area. The New York Police Department reported that a 20-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, and a 31-year-old man was shot in the buttocks. Both victims were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital and are in stable condition.
Police stated that it remains unclear whether the victims were intended targets or innocent bystanders. As of Thursday night, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting.
