A group of surfers in Oceano, San Luis Obispo County, had a startling encounter with a nearly 10-foot-long great white shark on Wednesday, as captured by drone footage. The shark was seen lurking beneath their surfboards in the clear waters.

One surfer, who has been using a drone to observe sharks in the area for two years, described it as the "most vivid, clear water shark encounter" he had ever recorded. The footage shared on Instagram shows the large shark swimming directly under the surfers.

This incident follows another shark encounter earlier in the week. On October 27, a fisherman was knocked off his kayak near Leffingwell Landing in San Luis Obispo County. While he managed to get back onto his damaged kayak, it began taking on water, forcing him to swim to shore. Experts from the California State University Long Beach Shark Lab suggested it was likely a shark strike that caused the damage to the kayak.
