Former world snooker champion Graeme Dott, 49, is on trial at the High Court in Glasgow, facing accusations of lewd, indecent, and libidinous behavior toward two children. The charges span two periods: between 1993 and 1996 involving a girl, and 2006 to 2010 involving a boy, both in the Glasgow region. Dott denies all charges.
Witness Testimony
A witness, who knew the alleged female victim when they were children, testified that Dott once told him not to enter a room where he was with the girl. The witness, now in his 40s, stated this happened "more than once" at a Glasgow house when he was around nine or 10 years old. He recalled being told to leave the room by Dott, describing the former snooker player as "quite angry." The witness initially provided a statement to police in 2001 and spoke to officers again in 2025. During cross-examination, Dott's defense counsel questioned discrepancies between his earlier statement and his current testimony, noting that the 2001 statement did not mention being told to stay out of the room.
Allegations Regarding the Female Victim
The trial previously heard evidence from the alleged female victim, who stated that Dott sexually abused her on multiple occasions during her childhood. She testified that the alleged abuse began while Dott was giving her a piggyback and that they played a "guessing game" where she would close her eyes and try to identify which part of his body was touching her. When questioned by Dott's lawyer about differences between her court testimony and statements made to police in 2001, she agreed that a "more serious allegation" was not specifically referenced in the earlier statement, explaining that she "struggled to tell the police that part."
Corroborating Witness
A school friend of the alleged female victim also testified, stating that the woman confided in her about the alleged abuse when they were 15. The witness recounted that her friend told her "Graeme had touched her" and confirmed that it was in a "wrong place" when asked. The friend described the woman as being "really upset" and "crying uncontrollably" at the time. The witness offered to help her friend report the incidents.
The trial is expected to last up to five days.
