Gracie McGraw, daughter of country music stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, has stated that her use of the diabetes and weight-loss drug Ozempic in 2022 led to a relapse of her eating disorder. The 29-year-old singer shared her experience on Instagram Stories, explaining that she initially took the medication after being diagnosed with polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), previously known as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

McGraw described the drug as initially effective, stating, "Yes, it f*****g worked and made my PCOS symptoms easier to control, but it also brought back my ED (eating disorder) and negative views on my body." She added that she believed it was "probably one of the worst things I've ever done for myself." McGraw noted that as she has stopped the medication, she is regaining weight.

She recounted how she became "way too skinny" but did not recognize it due to a prevailing "skinny culture." McGraw realized she had been "feeding into my eating disorder this whole time under the guise of this miracle shot." She observed that losing weight significantly impacted how people perceived her, including in her professional life, where she received more opportunities after her weight loss.

Despite shedding pounds, McGraw admitted to ongoing body image issues, exacerbated by comparisons to her younger sisters and famous parents. She stated that she had been subjected to negative comments about her appearance throughout her life, with critics suggesting she had different genes than her family because she was the "fat" one. McGraw distinguished between health concerns and body shaming, emphasizing the need for empathy. She argued against discouraging conversations about these issues, asserting that promoting thinness as a goal is harmful. "We are at a time when we need to be taking care of ourselves and our people," she said.

She concluded her post by stating she is "doing so good now," though she acknowledges occasional struggles with body image. In 2024, McGraw mentioned on Instagram that she had previously used Ozempic and was then on a low dose of Mounjaro, clarifying that she takes Mounjaro for her PCOS.

PCOS is a hormonal disorder affecting approximately one in ten women of childbearing age in the U.S., characterized by the ovaries producing excess male sex hormones due to cysts. This can lead to irregular menstrual cycles, abnormal hair growth, acne, obesity, thinning hair, and infertility. McGraw first shared her PCOS diagnosis in 2022 after years of health and weight struggles, explaining that her endocrinologist identified it as a potential factor in her weight issues. At that time, she stated she was working on her mental and physical health, sharing her experience to connect with others facing similar challenges. She noted that the medication prescribed had helped her achieve a body she had not had in years.
