GOP Congressman: Trump 'Doing Everything He Can' to Lose Midterms

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) believes former President Donald Trump is actively working against Republican chances in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections, citing a combination of unpopular foreign policy decisions and their economic consequences. Massie drew comparisons to the 2006 midterms, when Republicans lost control of Congress amid public opposition to the Iraq War.

"The thing that is the same is that there’s an unpopular war raging and Congress is not doing anything to rein it in," Massie stated, referring to opposition to Trump’s foreign policy actions, which he contends are contributing to economic hardship for Americans, such as increased fuel costs. Massie suggested that while these issues might not sway a vast majority of voters, they could influence a critical 5% margin.

Massie, who has become a vocal critic of Trump, particularly regarding the conflict in Iran and the administration’s handling of files related to Jeffrey Epstein, asserted, "This was Donald Trump’s election to lose, and he’s doing everything he can to lose it."

The Kentucky congressman recently introduced articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. House Speaker Mike Johnson subsequently sent the House into an early recess, delaying any vote on the resolution until after the November elections.
