U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, a Republican running for governor in Wisconsin, said he had to swim to safety after the light aircraft he was traveling in made an emergency landing in Lake Wausau late Saturday. The plane reportedly lost power as it approached Wausau Downtown Airport.

Tiffany stated on X, formerly Twitter, that after the landing, he and the pilot called 911. As the plane began to submerge, they exited the aircraft and swam to a shallow area. They then waited for emergency responders to reach them by boat.

Both Tiffany and the pilot were transported to a nearby hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries. The aircraft was a single-engine, four-seat Bonanza. David Crowley, the Democratic candidate for governor, expressed gratitude that no one was seriously harmed and praised the pilot's actions.
