Formula One driver George Russell has announced his engagement to his long-term girlfriend, Carmen Mundt. The Mercedes racer shared the news and photos of the proposal on social media, detailing a romantic candlelit dinner where he asked Mundt to marry him. The couple, who have been together since 2020, were on an island getaway when the proposal took place.

Russell had previously spoken about his relationship with Mundt, a Spanish businesswoman, in interviews. In June, he indicated that he was ready to propose, telling The Times that marriage was in their future, though not in the immediate next week. He described Mundt as his "future" and credited her with providing stability and helping him disconnect from the pressures of his racing career.

Mundt studied business management and finance in London after moving from Spain at age 18. She has since quit her financial job to live with Russell in Monaco and frequently attends his races. The couple first met six years ago. Russell shared that he initially met Mundt when he was going to meet a friend who ended up canceling, leading to Russell attending the meeting instead. He recognized the small town in southern Spain she was from, which he knew from his karting days.

In March, Russell spoke about the strong support system around him, highlighting Mundt's significant role. He noted her dedication, such as adjusting to his time zone when he was racing in Melbourne, and her investment in his career. He expressed feeling fortunate for her support, both mentally and practically.

Earlier this year, Mundt had also expressed her pride in Russell, marking their five-year anniversary on social media. She wrote about being "Forever proud of who you are and what you do."
