New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith has encountered recent legal challenges, including a speeding ticket and ongoing police investigation into assault allegations.

On July 6, Smith was reportedly cited for driving 70 mph in a 45 mph zone and for failing to produce his driver's license. According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, these are traffic violations, not misdemeanors, resulting in approximately $400 in fines and do not require a court appearance.

These traffic citations come weeks after a video surfaced online appearing to show Smith in an altercation with a woman outside a Florida residence. In the video, the woman makes allegations against Smith, stating he physically assaulted her and damaged her property. She also claims he took items from her purse and money before a scuffle ensued. The video concludes with Smith speaking to police officers outside the home.

The woman, identified as Kristen, reportedly posted the video to a private Instagram account, claiming Smith assaulted her because he dislikes caring for their special needs child. She further alleged he would rather engage in online activities than care for the child.

In response to the circulating video and allegations, the mother of Smith's son, Seven, posted a defense of the NFL player on Instagram. She shared photos of Smith with their son, asserting his capability as a caregiver and urging others not to involve their child in personal disputes. She also posted a Father's Day tribute to Smith.

Smith, 35, is currently in his second tenure with the Jets, who originally drafted him in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. His career has included stints with the New York Giants, Los Angeles Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, and Las Vegas Raiders. He earned the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year award in 2022 before being traded back to the Jets in March.
