A woman who accused New Jets quarterback Geno Smith of battery at his Florida home in June sustained bruises and cuts during the incident, according to newly released police photographs.
The Davie Police Department photos, obtained by The New York Post, show the woman had a bloody scrape on the webbing of her right hand and bruising on her left bicep. The images were taken on June 21 as investigators reviewed the woman's claims that Smith had physically assaulted her during an argument.
Smith also appeared to have sustained injuries. One photograph showed marks on his face, and another showed a knot on the back of his head.
According to an incident report from the Davie Police Department, the dispute between Smith and the woman concerned childcare arrangements. Smith stated he employed the woman in a managerial capacity and that caring for his autistic child was one of her duties. He also mentioned that they occasionally engaged in sexual activities in a "lighthearted and unserious manner."
Smith asserted that when the woman returned his child to his home, a commotion ensued. He claimed that upon investigating, he saw the woman leaving with property he believed belonged to him. Smith stated that the woman initiated a physical confrontation by punching and pushing him. The woman, however, alleged that Smith was the aggressor, claiming he grabbed, choked, and hit her.
Davie PD investigators were unable to determine the primary aggressor in the altercation due to conflicting accounts and a lack of independent witnesses or surveillance footage. No arrests were made, and the case was marked as inactive earlier this month. Smith, who was traded from the Raiders to the Jets this offseason, and the woman have not publicly commented on the incident.
