Gemma Owen Launches Debut Fashion Collection, Family Opens Up on New Documentary

Gemma Owen has launched her debut collection for Lipsy London, featuring a range of country-chic and evening-wear pieces. The Love Island star showcased the collection on Thursday, with designs inspired by her equestrian background. The autumn/winter collection, available from September 17, includes items such as a £40 pleated checked skort paired with a matching £72 blazer, a £69 green cord funnel-neck bomber jacket, and a black backless dress with lace cut-outs. Other notable pieces include a £42 horse-printed jumper and a £42 black sheer blouse paired with £52 velvet trousers.

The launch comes shortly after Gemma and her parents, Michael and Louise Owen, addressed public perceptions of Michael being 'boring' during an appearance on BBC Breakfast to promote their family documentary series, 'Meet the Owens'. Michael Owen, who transitioned from a successful football career to owning and training racehorses, discussed the challenges of his new profession. He admitted to financial struggles, noting the unpredictability of the racing business and competition from those with greater financial resources. At his peak in football, Michael Owen earned approximately £110,000 per week.

Discussing his retirement from football, Michael Owen shared that the constant adulation he received as a player was like a drug, and that injuries had significantly impacted his performance and enjoyment of the sport. He expressed a desire for purpose after football, which he found in horse racing. However, he acknowledged the financial risks, stating, "The biggest challenge is the financial side. It's a bloody hard business and I can't keep haemorrhaging money."

Louise Owen commented on her husband's spending habits, noting his willingness to invest heavily in horses while being frugal about household expenses. The documentary series aims to provide an authentic look at the family's life and Michael's transition into the horse racing industry.
