Gemma Owen, 23, garnered attention at the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Awards held at the Opera House Theatre in Manchester. Owen, a former contestant on Love Island and daughter of retired footballer Michael Owen, was seen in a striking plunging black gown.
The PFA Awards celebrate prominent figures in English football. Gemma Owen's attendance at the event is linked to her father's legacy as a former player for clubs such as Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle United, and Manchester United.
Her appearance comes as her family prepares for the release of their docuseries, "Meet The Owens." The series chronicles a year in the life of Michael Owen, his wife Louise, and their four children – Gemma, James, Emily, and Jessica – as they navigate their horse racing business and family life.
Michael Owen, 46, has spoken about the financial challenges of transitioning from his football career to owning racehorses. Despite an estimated net worth of £54.4 million, he admitted in the docuseries that the horse racing business is demanding and financially taxing. "The biggest challenge is the financial side," he stated. "It's a bloody hard business and I can't keep haemorrhaging money."
Reflecting on his retirement from football, Owen described the shift as difficult, noting a loss of the sense of value and adulation he experienced as a player. He also cited injuries as a factor in his decision to retire. His transition to horse racing, a passion he pursued from a young age, has proven to be a riskier venture, particularly when competing against those with significantly larger financial resources.
"Meet The Owens" is a six-part series produced by Whisper and will be available to stream on Prime Video starting August 28, 2026. The series also touches upon the family's home life, including the younger children's aspirations and the parents preparing for an empty nest.
