New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson has voiced his frustration with the team's consistent losing, stating that while he wishes to remain with the franchise, winning takes precedence. The Jets currently share a 2-5 record, a performance that has fueled speculation about potential trades involving veteran players before the November 10 deadline.
Wilson, who was the 10th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, acknowledged his desire to stay with the Jets but candidly admitted that his commitment to winning outweighs his loyalty to the team. "Yeah, I want to be here, man," Wilson told reporters. "I want to win games and that’s the one thing we’ve been missing on here. I love it here. Do I love it more than I love winning? Nah, to be completely honest, but I’m hopeful."
He expressed that the accumulating losses over his tenure have become increasingly difficult to endure. "I’ve never been the best optimistic guy, but I’ve found a way and dug deep, and I’ve been optimistic for three, four, five years now. And that’s why these [losses] each weekend hurt a little more."
Wilson's comments followed a visibly frustrated sideline demeanor during the Jets' 28-25 loss to the Miami Dolphins. In that game, he received only three targets, catching two passes for 26 yards. The previous week, he recorded four catches for 44 yards against the New England Patriots.
Wilson signed a four-year contract extension worth $130 million, which runs through the 2030 season, making any potential trade a complex financial decision for the Jets. The team has previously traded high-profile players, including defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and cornerback Sauce Gardner, during periods of rebuilding.
Since Wilson joined the Jets, the team has compiled a 24-51 record, with their best season ending at 7-10. Wilson stated that his frustration stems from a desire to contribute positively when things go right and to avoid situations where losses seem avoidable, emphasizing that his sentiments originate from a deep-seated drive to win.
