The Season 4 finale of MGM+'s supernatural horror series "From," titled "If a Tree Falls in the Forest…," brought a close to several storylines while introducing new dangers for the inhabitants of the mysterious town.

Consequences of Uprooting the Bottle Tree

The episode saw the townspeople execute a plan to remove the Bottle Tree, a ritual believed to be key to their escape or understanding of the town's nature. Boyd, Jade, and Tabitha worked to extract the bones of dead children, a process that involved uprooting the Bottle Tree. This action triggered severe consequences, including the sky turning dark in the middle of the day, allowing the creatures that stalk the town to attack.

Red lightning bolts began to shoot from the hole where the tree once stood, causing unsettling phenomena within the town, such as cupboards opening and closing rapidly and glass shattering. These events mirrored past disturbances experienced by the Matthews household, intensifying the sense of unnatural disaster.

Character Fates in the Finale

The finale confirmed the deaths of several characters. Elgin, manipulated by Sophia (a form taken by the Man in Yellow), was killed in the diner. Sophia had offered Elgin a bargain to spare him from the town's end, but ultimately used her powers to end his life.

Marielle also met a tragic end. After Fatima, who can see through the eyes of one of the creatures she gave birth to, warned her of an approaching monster, Marielle was attacked and killed. Kristi was present but could only offer her fiancé a final goodbye as she bled out.

The Man in Yellow's Schemes and Fatima's Transformation

The Man in Yellow, primarily operating through the guise of Sophia, continued to sow discord. Sophia was seen stealing talismans from various locations in town, which were collected by Clara. In a climactic move, Sophia dumped all the collected talismans into a Faraway Tree, a location known to hold portals to unknown destinations.

Meanwhile, Fatima's connection to the creatures deepened. After using her newfound ability to sense creatures to help Boyd, Ellis, and the others find Jade and Tabitha, she emitted a horrifying screech and her face contorted into that of a creature. While the finale did not definitively confirm if Fatima has fully transformed into a creature, it showed her embracing a monstrous form, leaving her ultimate fate uncertain for the next season.

Unresolved Conflicts and Future Seasons

Henry, influenced by visions from Sophia, nearly killed Victor, believing him to be an anchor keeping him trapped in a delusion. However, Ethan's intervention prevented the act, and Victor managed to disarm his father. The encounter left the father-son relationship fractured and Henry's grip on reality still in question.

The ritual to remove the Bottle Tree and the subsequent chaos, combined with the Man in Yellow's actions of scattering the talismans, have left the town in a precarious state. With the season ending on numerous cliffhangers, fans will await the fifth and final season of "From," which has already been greenlit.
