The classic American hot dog is undergoing a luxurious transformation, with some establishments now offering versions topped with ingredients such as caviar, Wagyu beef, and 24-karat gold flakes, fetching prices up to $100.
One such offering is the "Golden Glizzy" from Miami-based Golden Goat Caviar. This Australian Wagyu hot dog is adorned with crème fraîche, mascarpone, 30 grams of Ossetra caviar, chives, and edible gold flakes, served on a croissant dough bun. Each "Golden Glizzy" is priced at $100. The hot dog gained attention at events like the Formula One Miami Grand Prix and the Miami Open tennis tournament, where it reportedly sold out.
Keith Glickman, managing partner of Golden Goat Caviar, noted the perceived value of the offering, telling Fox News Digital that a tin of the Ossetra caviar alone can cost more than the entire hot dog.
In New York City, The Bar Room at The Modern, located within the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), offers a $39 dish featuring two mini Wagyu hot dogs. Collaborating with meat purveyor Pat LaFrieda and hot dog maker Sabrett, the mini links are served on poppy seed buns with pickled shallots, a fried egg sauce mixed with house-made mustard and sour beer, and caviar. The creation of this dish was inspired by an impromptu caviar-on-hot-dog experience by Danny Meyer, founder and executive chairman of Union Square Hospitality Group, who then encouraged the restaurant's executive chef, Thomas Allan, to develop it into a menu item. A representative from The Modern described it as a "signature snack" that guests find "fun, delicious and unexpected."
At Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado, the Ski Hill Grill offers a $60 "Mega Hot Dog Tower." This item includes six all-beef hot dogs, multiple sauces, and a large portion of waffle fries. A spokesperson for the resort explained that the dish was inspired by the presentation of seafood towers and aims to be "eye-catching, absurd, a little over the top, and best enjoyed with friends," aligning with the resort's playful spirit.
