Fox Sports reporter Tom Rinaldi has drawn attention for misidentifying the woman comforting Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels during Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Daniels suffered a dislocated left elbow before halftime in the game, an injury that, while not a fracture, complicated his recovery as he had sustained the same injury a season prior. As the broadcast returned from halftime, Rinaldi stated, "You see his wife, Regina Jacks…," before correcting himself to "His mother, Regina Jackson…."
Regina Jackson plays a significant role in her son's professional life, serving as his business manager and agent. Her involvement has previously drawn commentary, including criticism after the family expressed dissatisfaction with LSU for not retiring Daniels' No. 5 jersey. NFL analyst Trey Wingo once commented on Jackson's active role, suggesting she "needs a hobby."
Daniels himself has spoken about his mother's influence, referring to her as "mommy" even as an adult and stating, "Even though I'm 24 years old, I'm still a grown man, but I have to listen to my momma at some point." The public dynamic has led some to label Daniels as a "mamma's boy."
Jackson has defended her close involvement in her son's life, stating in a docuseries, "I know that sounds crazy, but I guarantee there's someone who's trying to get their hooks into Jayden Daniels. So thank god he got a mama like me because it ain't happening."
With Daniels sidelined indefinitely, backup quarterback Marcus Mariota is set to start for the Commanders. "Once I know an update that we can move forward with then I'll give you that," Commanders coach Dan Quinn told Fox. "Man, are we bummed for him. He was really playing his ass off. We will rally so hard around Marcus until Jayden's back. That's what we talked about as a team."
