A three-month-old girl has died during a camping trip in Great Wyrley, Staffordshire, leading to the arrest of four individuals on suspicion of murder. The infant went into cardiac arrest around 8:45 a.m. on Saturday and was pronounced dead by paramedics shortly thereafter.
The family stated that the death occurred when "children and parents joined grandad for a night fishing at the pond." They have appealed for privacy and asked the public to refrain from speculation, emphasizing that they themselves do not yet know the full details or circumstances surrounding the event.
Authorities confirmed that a 42-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, both from south Staffordshire, a 20-year-old woman from Wolverhampton, and an 18-year-old man from Walsall were arrested at the scene. All four have since been released on bail with conditions.
Officers and an air ambulance were dispatched to the scene following reports of the child's cardiac arrest. The police cordon around the area, which included tents and camping equipment near fishing platforms, was lifted on Sunday. Flowers and a toy bunny rabbit were left at the site by relatives.
Detective Inspector Josh Lee of Staffordshire Police's child protection team stated that the investigation is ongoing and that police are keeping an open mind regarding the circumstances of the death. He urged the community to rely on official updates and avoid spreading unconfirmed claims. The incident is being treated as isolated.
Local councillor Robert Duncan also called for community members to allow emergency services space to conduct their work and to respect the privacy of the family during this difficult time.
