Former River City actor Iain Robertson has been sentenced to nine years in prison for the rape and assault of multiple women.
The 45-year-old was convicted of five offenses, including domestic abuse, committed against three women between 2004 and 2019. Robertson, who played Stevie O'Hara in the BBC soap opera, appeared for sentencing via video link from Barlinnie prison. He will be subject to a further three years of supervised release upon his return to the community.
During his trial at the High Court in Glasgow, witnesses described Robertson as "violent" and "controlling." The court heard that Robertson, who resides in Carbeth, Stirlingshire, committed a rape between 2018 and 2019, as well as a separate sexual assault. The rape victim, who knew Robertson from their time working together on River City, testified that she had communicated she did not want a sexual relationship, but believed Robertson intended for one to occur. She later told Robertson she wished for their relationship to return to a platonic status.
In her pre-recorded testimony, the rape victim stated that Robertson was convinced she was in "denial about having feelings for him."
