Former ABC News correspondent Terry Moran stated that his former network is liberal and that its newsroom's lack of political viewpoint diversity made it challenging to cover President Donald Trump and his supporters.

Moran, speaking on "The Fifth Column" podcast, agreed when asked if ABC News is a liberal institution, attributing it to a lack of viewpoint diversity. He recalled urging colleagues to cover Trump fairly.

"Nobody had voted for him," Moran said, referring to the perspective within the newsroom regarding Trump's supporters.

Moran indicated he attempted to inject a different perspective by circulating internal messages that advocated for fairer coverage of Trump. He noted receiving positive responses from some colleagues, including engineers and producers.

ABC News declined to renew Moran's contract in June 2025 after he published a now-deleted social media post characterizing Trump and White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller as "world-class haters." A spokesperson for ABC News stated that the post violated company policies and reaffirmed the network's commitment to impartial reporting.

"We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent post, which was a clear violation of ABC News policies, we have made the decision to not renew," an ABC spokesperson said. "At ABC News, we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness and professionalism, and we remain committed to delivering straightforward, trusted journalism."

An ABC News staffer told Fox News Digital that the decision to part ways with Moran was swift, given the potential for the controversy to alienate viewers amid broader public distrust of legacy media.

Moran previously made similar remarks about the network's coverage following his departure from ABC News, suggesting that the limited presence of Trump supporters within the organization prevented its news division from understanding significant portions of the American public.

During the podcast interview, Moran distinguished between fairness and objectivity in journalism. "There is no such thing as objectivity in journalism," he stated, while asserting that his own work at ABC News was "excruciatingly fair."

Less than six weeks before his contract was not renewed, Moran conducted an interview with Trump in the Oval Office. During the exchange, Trump expressed distrust toward Moran, stating, "I don’t trust you. I don’t trust a lot of people... Look at you. You’re so happy to do the interview, and then you start hitting me with these fake questions."
