A Florida woman, Reagan Cox, 30, has been charged with a new felony for allegedly attempting to smuggle nearly 4 grams of cocaine into the Brevard County Jail in what authorities described as her "jail purse." The incident occurred on a Saturday after Cox was initially arrested on a charge of resisting arrest during a traffic stop.

Upon arrival at the Brevard County Jail, correctional deputies noted an anomaly with Cox's person in the "lower region" area. According to a statement from the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, deputies escorted Cox to a changing room. While there, Cox reportedly attempted to shield her buttocks with her hand.

When deputies removed her hand, a baggie containing 3.8 grams of cocaine fell to the floor. Cox denied knowledge of the cocaine, telling deputies that it might have been placed there during an "intimate encounter." The sheriff's office humorously noted on Facebook that the situation was so unusual it could "put the ole … ’those are not my pants’ excuse to shame!!"

Cox received an additional charge for bringing contraband into a detention facility. She was released from custody on the same day of her arrest. The sheriff's office concluded its statement by suggesting that not realizing cocaine was in one's "jail purse" is a poor reason to deny drug use.
