A 3-year-old girl in Florida has died days after her head became trapped in a kitchen playset, authorities said. The incident occurred on July 23 in Boynton Beach while the toddler and her sibling were at a babysitter's house.
The children were in the care of the babysitter's spouse at the time, as the babysitter had left the residence. The spouse was upstairs, periodically checking on the children playing downstairs, according to the Boynton Beach Police Department.
The spouse discovered the 3-year-old with her head stuck in the playset. The toddler's sibling reportedly told the spouse that the child had attempted to retrieve fallen toys from the playset and became trapped. At the time of discovery, the child was not breathing.
Life-saving measures were initiated by the spouse until first responders arrived. The child was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead on July 27. The police department provided an update on Monday.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and no charges have been filed, according to a police department spokesperson. Authorities have not yet released the child's name, cause of death, or manner of death, nor have they stated how long the child was believed to be stuck. The wooden kitchen playset was reportedly purchased via Facebook Marketplace a few years ago, but its make and model are currently unknown.
