A 16-year-old Florida girl, Sophia Cover, disappeared after surveillance video captured her leaving her home in the early morning hours of July 31. The footage shows Cover exiting her family's residence in Golden Gate Estates, located approximately 40 miles south of Fort Myers, at around 12:45 a.m. The circumstances of her departure remain unexplained.

Sophia's father, Richard Cover, reported her missing after he realized she was not in her room. He stated that he heard the family dogs whimpering, which prompted him to check on his daughter. Upon discovering her bedroom empty and the pool bathroom door unlocked, he understood she was gone. The search for Sophia entered its sixth day on Thursday.

Richard Cover expressed his distress and feeling of helplessness as the search continued. "She’s my buddy. I thought I wasn’t going to cry, man," he said during an interview, becoming emotional while discussing his daughter.
