Florida Man Confronts Crab Brandishing a Blade

A Florida resident captured a bizarre encounter with a crab that appeared to be armed with a blade, swiping at him and his dog. Eduardo Alvarez shared a video of the incident on Instagram, captioning it, "Florida is getting out of hand."

The footage shows Alvarez's dog, Summer, sniffing the crab before recoiling as the crustacean raises a claw that appears to hold a sharp object. "Dude, are you kidding me right now?" Alvarez can be heard saying in the video.

Alvarez then addressed his dog, asking, "Where the heck did you find a crab with a freaking shank?" He attempted to pick up the crab, but it swung at him. He eventually managed to safely grasp the crab and moved it to his backyard, warning Summer, "This is like a gangster-a** crab."

Florida is known for its diverse crab population, with residents frequently encountering them near their homes.

The video gained significant attention on social media, amassing over 650,000 likes on Instagram. Many viewers commented on the unusual nature of the encounter. One user remarked, "Yeah, we grow them mean in Florida," while another joked, "We got crabs wielding weapons before GTA 6."

However, some viewers questioned the authenticity of the video, with one commenter asking, "Did he manage to take the knife? I thought it was stuck on his claw."

A similar video from 2016 depicting a crab with a knife was previously debunked as a hoax. Jack Cover from the National Aquarium in Baltimore told The Washington Post at the time that such videos are hoaxes and that the crab is likely distressed. Cover explained that without the knife, the crab's behavior was not unusual.
