A Florida man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, first-degree arson, and abuse of a dead human body in connection with his mother's death. George Beemer, 23, called 911 from his Fort Myers home on a Saturday, reporting chest pains and seeking medical attention. While he was being transported to a hospital, another 911 call alerted authorities to a fire at the same residence.

Fire crews responded and discovered the severely burned body of Beemer's mother inside the home. Detectives developed probable cause, leading to Beemer's arrest.

According to an arrest report, Beemer later confessed to detectives that he shot his mother after years of accumulated anger. He stated that he then set her body on fire because she "wanted to be cremated." The report details that he admitted to shooting her once before pouring gasoline around her body and igniting it.

Beemer reportedly told detectives that his mother had mistreated him for years, including allegations of molestation, and that he had reached his breaking point. However, a friend of the victim disputed these claims, telling WINK News that the allegations of abuse were false and that Beemer was using them as a defense mechanism.

Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno commended the swift work of his detectives and crime scene investigators, as well as their partners with the fire service, in ensuring a quick arrest. "Their professionalism, attention to detail, and relentless investigative work ensured a swift arrest was made," Marceno said in a statement.

Beemer is currently being held at the Lee County Jail. The incident remains under investigation, and the sheriff's office has stated its commitment to providing answers to the victim's loved ones.
