A Florida man is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly attacking his sister with a machete early Monday morning in Margate. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Ruben Altidore, is accused of repeatedly slashing his relative in her bedroom.
According to an arrest report, Altidore yelled, “Oh my God, why aren’t you dead yet?” during the assault. The victim sustained a 10-inch wound to her right thigh that narrowly missed bone, as well as a four-inch laceration on the back of her right hand that nearly resulted in the loss of several fingers.
The attack occurred while the victim's 1-year-old daughter was asleep in the room. The child was unharmed but was found covered in her mother's blood. The woman eventually escaped the home and sought help from a neighbor.
Investigators discovered a trail of blood both inside and outside the residence. A machete with "red smudges" was found under a bed, and a sheath was recovered from the kitchen.
Altidore was arrested later on Monday. He appeared in court Tuesday to face charges including attempted felony murder, aggravated child abuse, and a probation violation. If convicted, he could be sentenced to life in prison.
