A United Airlines flight attendant is being recognized for her quick thinking and kindness during a flight from Newark, New Jersey, to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Monique Harris, a flight attendant with Republic Airways, which operates flights for United, intervened when a baby started to fall from its mother's lap as she dozed off.
Passenger John Frehse documented the encounter on Instagram, praising Harris for her actions. According to Frehse, the mother had fallen asleep and the baby was in danger of falling when Harris "sprung into action and caught the child." Following the save, Harris offered to hold the baby, allowing the mother to get some rest.
Frehse shared a photo of Harris holding the infant and expressed his admiration for her, tagging United CEO Scott Kirby. He noted his extensive travel history with the airline and called Harris an "A+ employee."
Harris responded to the widespread praise in the comments of the social media post, stating she was moved by the attention and never intended to seek recognition. "I had no idea that being my normal natural self would grow into such a priceless moment," she wrote.
Republic Airways acknowledged Harris's actions, calling her an "extraordinary colleague and flight attendant." United Airlines also commented on the social media post, expressing pride in having Harris on their team.
