Midtown Manhattan hosted its first-ever Bastille Day Dog Parade on July 12, an event dubbed "Le Carnaval des Animaux." Dogs participated in the festivities, showcasing French-inspired costumes and accessories.
The parade was organized by L’Alliance New York and VEG ER for Pets. It served as a commemoration of Bastille Day, the national holiday of France, which falls on July 14.
Pups were seen in a variety of ensembles, including outfits reminiscent of Marie Antoinette, bakers, and the Statue of Liberty. Some owners coordinated their attire with their dogs, sporting matching berets or striped shirts.
The event included a costume competition, where dogs strutted their stuff in front of onlookers. Prizes were awarded, with one participant, Summer Sparkles, winning for her dog Liberty's display. Among the attendees were NYPD officers.
The French phrase "Qui m’aime aime mon chien," meaning "Love me, love my dog," was shared in connection with the event. The parade highlighted a festive approach to celebrating international holidays through pet participation.
