A fireman accused of sex attacks against two teenage girls on a beach has been permitted to leave the country to visit his father, who has stage 4 cancer. Dawid Wlach, 35, appeared at King's Lynn Crown Court to face charges of two counts of rape and a sexual assault against one victim, and a sex assault against the other. The alleged attacks occurred on Great Yarmouth beach in Norfolk on the night of May 15 or early hours of May 16.
Wlach, who denies all charges, was granted permission to travel after his fiancée agreed to pay a £20,000 surety and hand over her passport to police. He had previously surrendered his own passport in May following his arrest. His fiancée, Monika Wrona, who has been in a relationship with Wlach for 12 years and works in Ipswich, will have her passport held by police until his return.
Wlach has lived in the UK with Ms. Wrona for ten years and has resigned from his position as a fireman after seven years of service, citing his arrest as the reason.
Also facing charges in connection with the same incident is Romanian national Madalin Ilinca, 34. Ilinca has pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, assault by penetration, and sexual assault. He was arrested in June after re-entering the UK, having previously left the country for Romania on May 19, reportedly to visit his ill mother. He remains on remand in prison.
Police were called to reports of the alleged rapes occurring on sand dunes behind the seafront Premier Inn in Great Yarmouth in the early hours of May 16. The area was cordoned off for investigation. Residents in the vicinity reported seeing a significant police presence.
During Wlach's court appearance, his defense argued that he had been compliant since his arrest and had strong ties to the UK, including his fiancée and her employment. The court ordered that Wlach must present a return plane ticket to the police before his passport is returned and must surrender it again by September 6.
The alleged victims, who were previously strangers to Ilinca, provided video-recorded interviews to the police. Ilinca reportedly left the UK shortly after a press release was issued about the incidents.
