The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering rewards totaling $300,000 for information leading to arrests and convictions in two separate attacks on postal workers in the Bay Area.
One incident occurred on July 30 at the San Bruno Post Office, located at 1300 Huntington Ave. Between 4:55 p.m. and 5:10 p.m., one or more suspects assaulted a postal employee and stole four tubs of mail. Surveillance footage captured a suspect, dressed in dark clothing and wearing a New York Yankees hat, loading mail tubs into a silver Lexus RX350. Authorities warned that mail dropped off at the San Bruno Post Office or in collection boxes serviced by that branch, potentially including those in South San Francisco, may have been compromised. Customers who recently used these locations are advised to monitor their financial accounts for unauthorized activity.

Three days prior, on July 27, another postal worker was attacked in San Leandro. Around 3 p.m., an employee was returning from a break near the rear entrance of the Estudillo Station Post Office at 1319 Washington Ave. Authorities reported that a stranger approached the worker from behind and punched them in the face before walking away.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service released images of a person of interest in the San Leandro assault and cautioned the public against approaching them. A reward of up to $150,000 is offered for information in this case.
California has been identified as one of the states most frequently experiencing attacks on postal workers. Officials stated that these crimes are not politically or election-related but are driven by criminals targeting specific mail items that can yield high value.
