Federal agents executed a search warrant Thursday at the Fresh Meadows home of former New York City Sheriff Anthony Miranda. The action follows a 2024 investigation by the city's Department of Investigation at the sheriff's headquarters.
Sources indicated that investigators are examining Miranda's handling of cash seized from illegal cannabis shops, as well as a series of nonprofits linked to him. Specific details regarding the federal probe remained limited as agents were observed removing boxes from the residence on 169th Street.
Miranda, who was appointed by then-Mayor Eric Adams, was formally dismissed from his position in April by his successor, Zohran Mamdani. Dora Pekec, a spokesperson for Mamdani's office, confirmed awareness of the federal investigation into the former sheriff.
"This administration is committed to transparency and accountability," Pekec stated. "We will await any findings and conclusions as the legal process runs its course." Merritt did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
