FBI agents executed a search warrant Tuesday at the Beverly Hills mansion of timeshare mogul Stephen Cloobeck, a raid connected to the ongoing federal investigation into former U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell. Cloobeck was observed outside the $26 million property engaging in a tense conversation with two men.
The search of Cloobeck’s home was directly linked to the investigation concerning Swalwell, according to a senior law enforcement official. The raid was reportedly connected to a sex worker.
Swalwell is currently facing multiple investigations following accusations of sexual assault and rape from several women. In August, Swalwell was stopped by federal agents at San Francisco International Airport, and his electronic devices were seized. The following week, he resigned from Congress and suspended his gubernatorial campaign.
Agents were seen outside Cloobeck’s mansion carrying high-powered rifles and wearing night-vision goggles. A source indicated that Cloobeck allegedly kept company servers within his home.
Cloobeck himself is involved in a criminal case related to his former fiancée, Adva Lavie, who is accused of targeting wealthy men. Cloobeck was charged with felony counts of attempting to dissuade a witness and a misdemeanor count of making annoying phone calls, charges stemming from Lavie’s case. Their wedding plans have since been called off.
Cloobeck was a significant financial supporter of Swalwell's gubernatorial bid, contributing over $1 million. He also frequently hosted Swalwell at his mansion, where the former congressman filmed a video denying sexual misconduct allegations in April. Cloobeck later rescinded his support for Swalwell, expressing anger towards the Democratic Party and stating he was now a libertarian.
In response to the controversy, Swalwell hired attorney Sara Azari, leading to a state ethics investigation into the substantial payments made to her. Swalwell remains under investigation by prosecutors in New York and California regarding sexual assault allegations. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office confirmed it is reviewing a case involving the disgraced politician and Lonna Drewes, a woman accusing him of rape.
