Federal authorities have arrested James "Fergie" Cox Chambers Jr., an estranged heir to the Cox Enterprises media empire, in Ibiza, Spain. The arrest, made on an international warrant, is related to allegations of money laundering and providing support to Hamas. Sources indicate Chambers, who is a convert to Islam, has spent years financing anti-Israel and anti-Western organizations and protests.

The Justice Department and FBI have been investigating individuals tied to the financing of violent protest activity. FBI Co-Deputy Director Chris Raia has stated that the bureau is actively pursuing financial trails to build prosecutable cases. Chambers' alleged activities have drawn parallels to those of American tech tycoon Neville Roy Singham, who is reportedly under grand jury investigation for similar financial improprieties related to funding far-left organizations from China.

Chambers, born in 1985, is the great-grandson of James M. Cox, a former Ohio governor, 1920 Democratic presidential nominee, and founder of Cox Enterprises. After reportedly receiving a payout of approximately $250 million from the family company in 2023 following a dispute over its support for Atlanta's public safety training center, known as "Cop City," Chambers allegedly redirected his wealth into communist collectives and groups engaged in protest and property disruption.

His activism reportedly began after the 2014 Ferguson, Missouri, protests and the 2016 Standing Rock, South Dakota, demonstrations. Around 2019, he established the "Berkshire Communists" collective in Massachusetts, operating a commune and a gym, and launching a publication. Following heightened scrutiny and zoning violations at his Massachusetts gym, Chambers relocated to Tunis, Tunisia.

In early 2024, Chambers was photographed in Tunis, presenting himself as a Muslim convert. Reports indicate he was a prominent financial backer of "Palestine Action," later renamed "Unity of Fields," and provided legal defense for activists involved in anti-Israel demonstrations in the United Kingdom and the U.S. He is quoted as having praised the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks as a "moment of hope and inspiration" and expressed sentiments critical of the U.S.

Chambers' supporters are reportedly organizing a protest outside the prison in Ibiza against what they term "TRUMP'S FASCISM IN PERSECUTING DEFENDERS OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE." The international arrest warrant seeks his extradition to the United States, where he faces charges related to alleged financial crimes and support for designated terrorist organizations.
