Faye Marsay has joined the cast of Apple TV+'s "Ted Lasso" for its fourth season, taking on the role of Lizzie Davis, a new center back for the AFC Richmond women's team. The series, known for its ensemble cast, welcomed Marsay and new characters in its initial episodes of the season.

Lizzie Davis is introduced as a mature single mother striving to balance her family life with her professional soccer aspirations, a theme that resonates with the show's protagonist, Ted Lasso. Marsay described her character as someone deeply passionate about football, willing to fight for her place on the team despite life's many demands.

"She definitely is the mama bear, but I think we wanna move her away from that, and she needs to find her own identity in football, and the passion she has that isn’t just being a mother," Marsay told Decider. She added that Lizzie "is someone who loves football so much she’s willing to fight for a place in it, even when life’s pulling her in a hundred different directions. She’s a mother, she’s a leader, and she doesn’t always get it right, but she shows up and gives everything she’s got."

Marsay, a 39-year-old English actor, brings a wealth of experience to the role with nearly 30 film and television credits. Her previous work includes roles in "The White Queen," "Doctor Who," "Fresh Meat," "Black Mirror," "Game of Thrones" where she played The Waif, and "Andor" as Vel Sartha. Marsay also has a background in stage productions and, like many of her "Ted Lasso" castmates, played soccer for years in her youth.

New episodes of "Ted Lasso" are released Wednesdays on Apple TV+.
