Fats Timbo, known for her role on the reality series The Undateables, has shared the reasons behind her separation from her husband, Alan Laszczak, after only seven months of marriage. Timbo, 29, stated that she made the decision to leave the marriage to prioritize her own well-being.
Speaking on FUBAR Radio's "What the Health," Timbo reflected on the significant life changes she has experienced. "One minute your girl's married, next minute I'm telling the world that I'm getting a divorce," she said. "I need to be able to choose myself. I can't keep putting someone else first that doesn't even put themselves first."
Timbo acknowledged that leaving the relationship was daunting, particularly because it appeared stable to outsiders. "I think a lot of people stay in relationships because they're scared of what people might think, they're scared of being alone," she explained. "They're scared of what life holds, and it's familiar." She added, "It was terrifying to come out of something where I was looked so happy to the outside world, but at the same time I had to live my truth."
Despite the difficulties, Timbo expressed feeling happier and stronger, having learned to focus on her own needs. "I'm finally settling in, being on my own and enjoying singlehood, and enjoying working and exploring. I'm not lowering my standards," she stated.
Timbo, who first gained recognition on The Undateables in 2018, announced her engagement to photographer Alan Laszczak in May 2024 after a four-year relationship. The proposal occurred during a trip to Thailand. Timbo mentioned that she and Laszczak, who has cerebral palsy, shared an understanding due to their respective disabilities.
"We both have a disability so we understand each other. I love to be on camera, he loves to be behind the camera, so it works," she previously said.
Timbo's journey to finding fame included initial hesitation about participating in The Undateables due to its name. However, she later decided to join the show at age 20, viewing it as an opportunity to potentially find love and to represent the Black little person community on television. She has since expanded her media presence, appearing in shows like "Don't Look Down" and serving as a commentator at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. Timbo has also cultivated a large following on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where she shares comedic content.
