A father of three is in critical condition after masked intruders broke into his Queensland home and repeatedly stabbed him early Tuesday morning. Corey Conaty, 46, was asleep when the four attackers entered his Victoria Point residence.
Conaty sustained severe injuries to his arm and neck during the assault, with his thumb nearly severed. He fought back against the intruders, who also damaged his car before fleeing. He was transported to a hospital in a critical but stable condition and placed in an induced coma.
Images of the incident depict the victim in hospital and show the severity of his injuries, including a large neck wound and arm damage requiring extensive surgery.
A neighbor reported hearing the intruders laughing during the home invasion, describing the entry as explosive. "You could just hear them yelling and carrying on. They were laughing their heads off and thought it was a big joke," the neighbor told 7News.
Conaty's sister, Shannon, has initiated a GoFundMe to support his medical treatment, which has already raised nearly $14,000. She detailed the extensive surgeries he has undergone, including 14 hours for arm and finger repairs, followed by facial and neck surgery, and later abdominal surgery. While Conaty has been brought out of his coma, Shannon stated that further surgeries are anticipated and his recovery will be lengthy. She described him as a fighter, always ready to help family and friends.
The GoFundMe aims to alleviate financial pressures on Conaty and his partner, Tammy, allowing them to focus on his healing. Police are investigating the attack as targeted, noting that officers had previously been called to the property.
