The family of Nolan Xavier Wells, an 18-year-old who died after vanishing during a Fourth of July boating trip, will demand a thorough investigation into his death and the release of all related records. Top civil rights attorney Ben Crump and civil rights activist Al Sharpton are scheduled to join Wells' family for a press conference in Harlem, New York.
Crump's office announced the family's intentions, stating they will call for a "full, transparent, and urgent investigation" and the "timely release of all investigative records, witness accounts, and findings."
Wells, a graduate of Ocean Springs High, was last seen on Horn Island off the coast of Mississippi around 3 p.m. on Saturday. His mother reported him missing that same evening. A two-day search concluded with the recovery of his body on Monday. The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.
According to Crump's office, the family has "serious, unanswered questions about the circumstances that left Nolan alone on the island and about how he died."
