A dispute has emerged among the family of boxing legend Ricky Hatton concerning his estimated £40 million fortune, following reports that he did not leave a will. Trustees were appointed to manage Hatton's estate after his death in September last year at the age of 46.
Sources close to the family have indicated that communication with the appointed trustees has deteriorated, with one describing the situation as a "complete mess." Nearly a year after Hatton's passing, his children – Campbell, 25, Millie, 14, and Fearne, 12 – remain unaware of the specifics regarding the distribution of their father's estate. It was initially believed that Hatton had intended to leave his wealth to his three children.
"It's been more than eight months since Ricky died and the family is no closer to finding out what's going on with his estate," a source told The Sun, adding that the absence of a will has complicated matters.
During his boxing career, Hatton accumulated significant wealth through fight earnings and a series of business ventures, many reportedly involving property investments. These investments are expected to ensure a secure financial future for his children, with one source stating Hatton was "determined to ensure that he had a financial legacy from his incredible career."
In a separate incident earlier this week, a vehicle identified as belonging to the late Ricky Hatton was torched in what police are investigating as a targeted attack outside the home of his son, Campbell Hatton, in Tameside. The incident, which also involved a smashed front window, occurred on a Monday night. Campbell Hatton reported that the car was one of the few possessions he had of his father's and contained sentimental items that were destroyed.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed they were called to the scene following reports of a car fire. Investigations are ongoing, and no arrests have been made. Police are appealing for information and believe the attack to be targeted, with no wider risk to the public.
Following the car fire, firefighters were called to the area on Tuesday morning due to a gas leak, though no injuries were reported. Campbell Hatton has previously spoken about his father's death being a turning point in his life, aiding his recovery from addiction and preventing him from taking his own life. He has since entered rehab and recently announced his return to boxing.
