The family of Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, attended court proceedings on Monday for the suspect charged with his murder. Kirk, 31, was a father of two.

Tyler Robinson, 23, is accused of Kirk's murder. Proceedings are scheduled to continue through Friday.

Kirk's widow, Erika, his parents, Robert and Kathryn, and his sister, Mary, issued a statement ahead of the court appearance. "Charlie was a beloved husband, son, brother, friend, and father," the statement read. "Every court proceeding serves as a painful reminder of his death and the loss that has irrevocably impacted our lives and the lives of his children."

Kirk's parents and widow arrived separately at the courthouse. The family expressed gratitude for the support and prayers they have received, stating, "This outpouring has sustained us during the darkest days of our lives."

The family requested privacy, adding, "Out of respect for the judicial process, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask for continued privacy as we navigate this process and immense grief."
