Jana Armstrong, a 30-year-old mother, was last seen on Tuesday, July 7, at a unit on Gordon Avenue in Newtown, a suburb of Toowoomba, Queensland. Her white Hyundai Kona was discovered abandoned on Wednesday morning at the corner of Jellicoe Street and Gordon Avenue.
Friends and family are increasingly worried, expressing a strong belief that Armstrong may have been a victim of foul play. These concerns are amplified by the fact that she would not willingly abandon her young son, Deshal, who was born in February. Speculation on social media suggesting Armstrong may have been suffering from post-natal depression has been actively dismissed by those close to her.
A family friend stated that Armstrong has been a steadfast support for her siblings since their parents died within two months of each other several years ago. This friend emphasized that Armstrong would "never abandon" her younger sister, Faith Isaacs, particularly given the tragic circumstances Faith is currently navigating.
Faith Isaacs is caring for her newborn daughter, Lehara Jill Isaacs, who was diagnosed with a terminal illness after suffering severe brain damage during birth due to a placental abruption. Lehara was placed in palliative care in May, though she was later allowed to return home with her family. Armstrong had expressed support for her sister during this time, noting Lehara's strength and cherishing the moments spent with her niece.
Armstrong's sister, Faith, has publicly stated her "strong belief" that Jana has been a victim of foul play. She described the disappearance as "completely out of character" and reiterated that Armstrong's role as a mother is paramount, intensifying their concern. The family is appealing to the public to search backyards, creeks, and bushland for any sign of Armstrong.
Police and SES volunteers have been conducting extensive searches in areas around Toowoomba, including Black Gully Creek. Forensic investigators have examined the Gordon Avenue unit, believed to be Armstrong's residence. Armstrong is described as Caucasian, approximately 165cm tall, with blue eyes and brown hair. She was last seen wearing a Country Road shirt, blue jeans, and black Havaianas thongs.
Faith Isaacs has urged those sharing information about her sister's disappearance to use only up-to-date photos and information confirmed by the family or police. She cautioned that misinformation or speculation could hinder the search efforts and cause further distress during an already difficult time. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
