The Atlanta Falcons have officially named Tua Tagovailoa as their starting quarterback for the upcoming Week 1 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The announcement was made Monday morning, ending a period of considerable speculation surrounding the position.
Tagovailoa joined the Falcons on a one-year contract. His performance during training camp and the preseason was reportedly inconsistent, leading to questions about his readiness to start.
Despite these challenges, the team ultimately decided against naming Michael Penix Jr., who has been recovering from a torn ACL sustained last season, as the starter. Head coach Kevin Stefanski indicated that Penix is not yet ready to play as he continues his rehabilitation process.
