Former NBA player Ty Lawson was arrested on July 16 on a shoplifting charge in Douglas County, Colorado. The 38-year-old allegedly stole a $34 bottle of vodka from a liquor store.
Lawson was taken into custody by the Castle Rock Police Department around 8 p.m. after a store employee accused him of the theft. According to the arrest affidavit, Lawson took the bottle to a nearby restaurant before police confronted him. Officers noted he smelled of an alcoholic substance.
During the pre-booking process, Lawson reportedly became verbally abusive towards the arresting officer, repeatedly calling the officer a “‘bitch’ repeatedly and a ‘white bitch’,” the affidavit stated. He also kicked the glass wall of his holding cell and yelled, according to the report, but later calmed down and apologized for his behavior.
Lawson is facing one charge of theft, specifically shoplifting less than $300. His pretrial conference is scheduled for August 13.
